The Lady Baymen are Impressive on the Court and Off
Every year, the Lady Baymen host a Basketball Tournament in early December which has become a fun event for the community. A couple of years ago, the girls have added a charity component to the tournament with far reaching benefits.
The Gardiner Foundation in the Bronx hosts Basketball Tournaments of their own to raise funds for people in need in the Bronx. The Lady Baymen have gone to the Bronx to support the Foundation. In 2015, the Lady Baymen helped distribute 600 Thanksgiving dinners. This year the girls returned to the Bronx and delivered 750 dinners. They showed up before dawn and handed out bagels to the people waiting in line. The gratitude and love shown to the girls by the people of the Bronx community was truly heartwarming.
All four of teams participating in the Lady Baymen Basketball Tournament collected toys and donated them to the Gardiner Foundation at their final round on December 9.
Gianna Gotti has been involved with the charity for the past two years and has gone above and beyond. She participates in the summer basketball tournaments in the Bronx for the Foundation. Gianna is a remarkable athlete. Only five girls in Lady Baymen Basketball history have scored 1000 points in a high school career. Gianna crossed that milestone last year as a sophomore. She is on pace to break the school record as the all-time high scorer in her junior year.
The Gardiner Foundation,Inc., is a 501c, founded and established in 2006, by Dexter Gardiner, in memoriam of the devastating loss of six of his family members in a horrific car accident.
While recognizing the needs of other families in the community who have also suffered a sudden and tragic loss, The Gardiner Foundation, Inc., embarked on an outreach initiative that offers a variety of support to community members experiencing various social and financial needs ranging from college scholarships, computers, school supplies to burial assistance and spiritual mentoring and guidance.
