OBEN Board of Education Begins 2017
The Oyster Bay East Norwich Board of Education held its monthly Business meeting on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library. The audience was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by James H. Vernon School 6th grade student Mariana Panariello.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld began her report by discussing a Vote at BOCES on February 8th for all residents of Nassau County. BOCES is looking to purchase the Carmen Road School and needs the approval. Click here to read all about the proposal and please, plan on voting on February 8.
OBHS Principal Sharon Lasher has been in talks with the North Shore District about partnering with BOCES to host a summer school program at Oyster Bay High School. It is in the initial planning stage and more information will follow at subsequent meetings.
Dr. Seinfeld asked the community to save the date of Wednesday, May 24 for a presentation in the Jericho School District by Neurologist Dr. Stephen Dewey about substance abuse and its effect on the brain. After the presentation, there will be small breakout groups. OBEN’s Social Worker Mr. Matt Brown will be a facilitator at these event.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Lisa Mulhall announced that in February the District will begin using a new elementary school report card. Dr. Mulhall praised the collaborative work of District Technology Support Ms. Jane Pagano, Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Ms. Tami McElwee and James H. Vernon School Principal Ms. Valerie Vacchio.
Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Michael Cipriani addressed Facilities, Capital Reserve Projects, and continued the 2017-18 Budget process with Presentation number 2. The Budget vote will be on Tuesday, May 16 at Oyster Bay High School.
