English as a Second Language
One of the greatest experiences of my life was coming to America… As an English Language Learner (ELL) twenty eight years ago I faced many exciting, new cultural challenges. I established new relationships and I continued on my quest to learn English well enough to be able to reach my goal of a better future. Many families face similar situations when they come to America. Here at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District, we welcome the opportunity to serve and support the ELL community. The English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and I are committed to giving our students a warm, nurturing environment and an academically sound, standard-based curriculum. Our ESL integrated curriculum will help our beginning, intermediate and advanced students to focus on the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing for the purpose of increasing their communicative skills and preparing them to face the challenges of the 21st Century so necessary for a fulfilling life here in America and abroad. As a Supervisor of ESL and Languages Other Than English, I hope to facilitate the acculturation process for these students and their families and help them in their quest to reach their vision of the “American Dream.”
