Fine & Performing Arts Mission

 Statement

The mission of the Fine and Performing Arts department is to encourage students to develop their creativity in the pursuit of reaching their potential as human beings.  To attain its mission of the development the whole mind, the Fine and Performing Arts department first recognizes that learning a creative activity relies on the fact that each child is unique. Individualized instruction and understanding the creative process help to focus the students' potential as well as to assure that each child develops the abilities needed for creative expression. In summary, the Fine and Performing Arts department strives to preserve the legacy of the arts and to enrich the human spirit

Fine Arts Events & Activities

At the elementary level, youngsters are given the opportunity to explore their creativity while learning the fundamental elements of the visual arts. Through guided instruction, children create projects which are tied to regular classroom activities as well as incorporating the fundamentals outlined in the New York State and National Standards for the Arts.  At the secondary level, each child has the opportunity to further explore their creativity in the fine arts department, with a thorough sequence of courses.  This challenging environment is designed to develop a student’s confidence in the expression and development their creative ideas.  Activities are planned throughout the year to give students the opportunity to display their work in a variety of different venues.

Performing Arts Events & Activities

Through our Music and the Brain program at the Roosevelt school, children begin their musical experiences in a setting designed to aid in the development of their young minds.  This understanding of the fundamental elements of music is enhanced with singing as well as playing piano and rhythm instruments.  Youngsters can become further involved in the music program by joining band and chorus at the Vernon school and continuing these experiences in the High School ensembles.  Using the New York State and National Standards for the Arts as a basis, students explore music as a means of self expression and communication.  Performances take place throughout the school year and give children the opportunity to bring their hard work to the public stage.
