  • Roger Williams University Marine Biology Summer Camp allows students to explore marine biological research first hand at RWU in Bristol, Rhode Island
  • The RWU Marine Biology Summer Camp is a one week introductory program for high school students in coastal ecosystems

UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO SUMMER PROGRAM 2008

  • The Center for Student Leadership & Community Engagement is hosting the first annual High School Leadership Institute, August 3-8, 2008
  • The High School Leadership institute is a 6-day residential program for high school students who will be entering the fall as a sophomore or junior.
  • The Institute is a 6-day residential program for high school students who will be entering the fall as a sophomore or junior. The theme is Take the Challenge-Be the Change, and will provide students with opportunities to explore their leadership potential, and develop valuable leadership skills that will benefit them now as well as in their future educational endeavors.

FIVE TOWNS COLLEGE SUMMER SESSION 2008

  • The opportunity to advance your educational and career objectives during the coming summer at Five Towns College is affordable at the special Undergraduate tuition of only $400 per credit.
  • High School students who are currently sophomores, juniors, or seniors are invited to attend a summer workshop.

JUNIATA COLLEGE CAMP FACILITIES

  • Few colleges have a more attractive campus than Juniata
  • The 100 acres on College Hill provide a magnificent atmosphere and safe environment
  • Campers are housed in one of the residence halls on campus and have access to all the amenities in the residence hall
  • The camp will utilize one of the many playing fields on campus
  • The intramural gym and mezzanine areas as well as the ma room will be available in case of inclement weather
  • Additional facilities available include an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, and a game room

 

METROPOLITAN GOLF ASSOCIATION GOLFWORKS PROGRAM

  • GOLFWORKS is a Junior Intern Program established in 1994 by the MGA Foundation to teach young people about golf, its traditions and an appreciation for the environment
  • One of the main objectives of the program is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for under privileged youth
  • A potential candidate does not have to be involved in golf but is open to the idea of future employment opportunities in golf and golf related careers
  • The ideal candidate is between 15-18 years old, both boys and girls are needed, interest in golf is a plus, but not necessary, must have transportation to the golf course or country club, and should be a reliable individual
  • The job is a summer internship, and the starting salary is $8.00 per hour and is paid by the MGA

THE ROBERT E. COOK HONORS COLLEGE INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA 2008 SUMMER HONORS PROGRAM

  • The Robert E. Cook Summer Honors Program is designed for talented high school students who desire a serious academic challenge in a college setting
  • “Major” classes are discipline specific, including courses in Journalism, Law, Leadership, Music, Physics, Web Design, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Film, Finance, and Forensics
  • The afternoon Great Questions sessions are comprised of humanities options focusing on reading, critical thinking, debate, discussion and writing
  • Students select English, Philosophy, Fine Arts or History as a way to explore questions such as “What do we know? What do we believe?”

BOSTON UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL HONORS/SUMMER CHALLENGE

·     High School Honors is a six-week residential or commuting program in which students can either take two Boston University undergraduate courses, earning up to eight credits, or conduct scientific research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Participants must be entering their senior year in fall 2008

·     Summer Challenge is a two-week residential program for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in fall 2008

·     Summer Challenge students enroll in two-non credit seminars designed specifically for the program. Seminar topics this year include abnormal psychology, business, creative writing, ecology, the history of Boston , international politics, introduction to Chinese, journalism, law, mass communication, persuasive writing, and visual arts

·      The Summer Challenge Program is ideal for students who wish to explore college-level work without the pressure of grades.

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION-SUMMER STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS 2008

·      For the 15th year, the Long Island Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation invites applications for Summer Student Fellowships

·      The program is designed to support full time research (minimum commitment-eight weeks) in the broad areas of rheumatic diseases and musculoskeletal conditions

·      The goal is to encourage students to enter the field of research in the rheumatic diseases

·      A list of potential preceptors is available upon request

·      The fellowship will pay up to $2,000 each, and are limited to medical students, arthritis health profession students (physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, psychology, nursing, etc.)

ALFRED UNIVERSITY SUMMER PROGRAMS EQUESTRIAN CAMPS

·       Residential English Camp for ages 14-17 July 27-31, 2008

·       Day Camps English and Western for ages 9-16 July 7-11 & August 4-8, 2008

·       These camps create a wonderful opportunity for all levels of riders from beginners through advanced.

·       Campers can bring their own horses or use AU’s lesson horses during their week of camp.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE ACCOUNTING PROFESSION!

  • The Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program is a residential learning program that exposes minority high school juniors to careers in the business world
  • COAP is sponsored by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA
  • The program is held at Hofstra University from Saturday, June 28, 2008 to Wednesday July 2, 2008.
  • Students reside on campus and participate in workshops that cover topics such as finance, accounting, computers, and verbal communication skills
  • Students also attend field trips to local public accounting, industry, and government offices
  • After the residency session, students attend ongoing sessions that provide them with support systems necessary to succeed in their college and business careers, such as fall homecoming one-day session that addresses choosing a college, applying for financial aid and other helpful topics
  • Students are selected for the program based on GPA, extra curricular activities, a short essay, and an interview with COAP Board members
  • There is no cost to the students to attend the program

THE PRECOLLEGE PROGRAM AT PRATT INSTITUTE

·        Each summer, over 400 high school students seize the opportunity to experience college-level study in Pratt Institute’s PreCollege program

·        Students are immersed in a program of art, design, architecture, creative writing, or critical and visual studies, modeled after Pratt’s undergraduate offerings.

·        Upon completion of the program, students can earn four elective college credits

·        The PreCollege Program consists of four classes, as well as lectures and cultural and social events

·        Students pick one of 20 credit bearing electives and are automatically enrolled in a Foundation class, an Art History class, and a Portfolio Development class, to complement their elective of choice

·        This program is open to all students with demonstrated ability in art who have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school.

SUMMER SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, AND ARCHITECTURE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM AT CLEMSON UNIVERSITY

·        For the past 27 years, Clemson has offered a summer enrichment program for gifted middle and high school students. In addition to challenging courses, the program provides opportunities for fun, friendship, and a Clemson experience.

·        A balanced schedule of educational, recreational, and cultural activities will help broaden academic skills, and develop creative abilities. Students will be able to take exciting classes during the day. Evening and weekend activities may include nature hikes, small group discussions with Clemson faculty, and career and educational guidance.

ACADEMICS 4 STAR CAMPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA

LANDMARK VOLUNTEERS YOUTH ACROSS AMERICA

·        Landmark Volunteers is a one-week spring and two-week summer organization for high school students who want to make a real difference in the world around them by performing various physical works such as trail building, painting and grounds keeping, to make just a few

·        Landmark Team Leaders lead groups of up to 13 volunteers in various non-profit organizations around the country. They are the connection between the host organization, the volunteers, and the Landmark office. Besides this logistical and organizational responsibility, there are many other important roles the Team Leaders play such as a source of inspiration, a source of team building, a source of direction, and a source of fun.

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS

·        Summer High School Programs in New York City and Barcelona offer several courses, including Diety, Darwin, and Intelligent Design and Introduction to Architectural Design and Theory

·        The Barcelona Experience offers students entering grades 11 or 12 the opportunity to examine the history, art, and urban development of Barcelona, Spain, enriching their understanding of how European communities develop local, regional, national, and international identities

NEW YORK STATE SUMMER SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

·        All students in grades 8-12 who may be interested in auditioning for the School of Ballet, Choral Studies, Dance, Jazz, Media Arts, Orchestral Studies, Theatre, and Visual Arts are welcome to apply to NYSSSA

·        Students must audition in person at regional audition sites for the summer schools they wish to attend

·        In certain cases, a portfolio review, or a video and/or audiotape or compact disc review may be sufficient

SUMMER ON THE COSTA DEL SOL SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

·        Located on the Mediterranean Sean in Malaga, Spanish language lessons are taught every weekday morning

SACI STUDIO ART CENTERS INTERNATIONAL FLORENCE

·        SACI’s Late Spring and Summer terms are designed for students who do not have the time during the regular academic year to study abroad or are non-traditional students

·        During these short terms, SACI offers fully-accredited and challenging courses in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, design, Renaissance art history, art conservation, and Italian language, weekly open drawing sessions, lectures by artists from throughout the world,  film nights, and weekend field trips to cities such as Fiesole, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Volterra, and San Gimignano.
