Mathematics
The mathematics department provides students at all levels with an education in mathematics that is well aligned with both the state and national standards. This translates into student learning experiences designed to promote genuine development of mathematical understanding. Teachers in our department participate in ongoing development of instructional strategies -- grounded in research -- that have shown advancement for student learning. Additionally, inter-departmental collaboration promotes continuity in curriculum as students move from course to course. Each year we have seen growth in the number of students who participate in research opportunities and competitions. Unique experiences, such as activities during math week and Engineers Teaching Algebra, provide students with stimulating experiences in mathematics that extend beyond the traditional curriculum. Such experiences provide students with a perspective of mathematics that is applicable to career choices and practical problems they will face as adults. For the third year in a row the math department has had nearly 100 percent senior enrollment in studies of advanced topics in mathematics.
