PreK-8
The NYSED Virtual Learning System displays sample tasks for the prekindergarten
through grade 8 performance indicators. These tasks can be viewed by drilling
down through the VLS, Mathematics, Standard 3: Mathematics Revised March 2005 to
the performance indicator level. Sample tasks are aligned to the performance
indicators for both the content and process strands. See

New York State Mathematics
Resource Center
In January 2006, NYSED awarded the NYS Mathematics Resource Center to RMC
Research Corporation. This Center will provide a centralized source for
dissemination of guidance on NYSs standards based mathematics and will identify
best practices and content knowledge and pedagogy which is informed by evidenced
based research. The Center will establish a statewide strategy for ongoing
professional development opportunities for teachers of mathematics. More
information regarding this Center and its work will be available in the near

Presidential Awards for
Mathematics and Science
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)
identifies outstanding teachers in mathematics and science at the national
level. In 2006, teachers of grades K-6 will be eligible for this award. New York
State is looking for nominations for outstanding mathematics and science
teachers who bring state and national standards to life in their classrooms,
spark students' imaginations, have a belief that all students can learn, engage
students, and have an overall passion for teaching and learning. If you know of

Implementation Timeline for
Regents Examination in Mathematics
On December 8, 2005 the Board of Regents unanimously approved the Education
Department's recommended implementation timeline for the Regents Examinations in
Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. See
