Social Studies
The Social Studies Curriculum exists from Pre-K to 12th. The curriculum is
rooted in five New York State Academic Standards. These include the history of
the United States and New York, world history, geography, economics, and civics,
citizenship, and government. There are state assessments in this subject area in
grades 5 and 8 which covers the content from grades 2 through 4 and 5 through 8,
respectively. There are Regents exams in grade ten, which covers the curriculum
in grades 9 and 10, and in grade 11. The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School
District is committed to having students make connections with the curriculum to
their community which is rich in its historical significance. To that end, the
district provides experiences both within and outside the classroom for students
to explore and research the importance of social studies within their academic
program. The program at the high school offers a plethora of courses to capture
student interest. In addition, the department also offers extracurricular
activities such as community service, which can be taken for credit, mock
trials, and the Interact Club, which sponsored through the Rotary.
Business
The Business Department offers courses for students in grades 9-12. The courses
follow the New York State standards for Career Development and Occupational
Studies which consists of the following areas: career development, integrated
learning, universal foundation skills, and career majors. The courses offered at
the high school level promote these standards through business overviews,
marketing, advertising, salesmanship, entrepreneurship, and accounting. In
addition, students have the opportunity to receive credit for work experience
and job placement in the School Business Partnership program. The business
community leaders serve as advisors, mentors, and guest speakers to the entire
department.

project-based curriculum which assists adolescents meet their present and future
responsibilities as family members, consumers, and wage earners. Modules include
food, nutrition and wellness, and personal development and career exploration.
