On August 27th, incoming pre-K and kindergarten students in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District got an exciting glimpse into their upcoming school days at “Storytime with Ms. Small.” Held in the cafeteria of Theodore Roosevelt School, the event welcomed the young students and their parents to a cozy gathering where Principal Devra Small read “The Little Engine That Could.”

After sharing the beloved story, Ms. Small engaged the children in a discussion about its central theme—facing challenges you think you can't overcome and succeeding. She connected this theme to the students' own experiences, reassuring them that while starting school might feel daunting, they are capable of handling it and will soon master their new environment.

Ms. Small then encouraged the children to share their own stories of overcoming difficult tasks with their peers, fostering a sense of camaraderie and confidence among the group. This heartwarming event provided a gentle introduction to their new school, setting a positive tone for the first day of school next week.
