The Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District is thrilled to announce the arrival of two new staff members who will bring their expertise, passion, and fresh perspectives to our schools.

Thomas Mauro – Assistant Principal at James H. Vernon School

We are delighted to welcome Thomas Mauro as the new Assistant Principal at James H. Vernon School. Thomas comes to us with a robust background in education and a wealth of experience. Before joining our district, Thomas was a high school English teacher at Sewanhaka High School, where he taught grades 7-12 and AP Language and Composition. In addition to his teaching duties, he was also the head swim coach for the boys and girls varsity swim teams for the past seven years, demonstrating his commitment to student-athletes and extracurricular excellence.

Thomas is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at LIU and resides in Bellmore with his wife, who is also a high school teacher specializing in chemistry and AP Biology at Baldwin High School. Together, they are raising two wonderful sons, William, who is 2 years old, and Vincent, who is just 1 month old. Thomas’s dedication to education and his leadership experience will undoubtedly make a positive impact at Vernon School.

Jennifer Capogna – Elementary Curriculum Associate for Theodore Roosevelt and James H. Vernon Schools

We are equally excited to introduce Jennifer Capogna as our new Elementary Curriculum Associate for Theodore Roosevelt and James H. Vernon Schools. Jennifer brings with her a wealth of experience and a deep passion for education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University and her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Fairfield University. Her educational journey continued with a degree in Educational Leadership and Technology from Adelphi University.

With nineteen years in education, Jennifer has taught grades 3, 4, and 5 in the New York City Department of Education, focusing on Integrated Co-Teaching and English Language Learning. Most recently, she served as an Assistant Principal at Lawrence Public Schools, where she supported student achievement and served as an instructional leader for teachers. As a mother of two, Jennifer values the importance of building strong relationships within the school community. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, open communication, and flexibility, making her an excellent fit for our district.

Both Thomas and Jennifer are enthusiastic about joining our team and contributing to the growth and success of our students. Please join us in welcoming them to the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District! We are excited about the positive energy and innovative ideas they will bring to our schools.
