Vernon students earn top honors in PSEG Energy Conservation PSA Contest

James H. Vernon School had plenty to celebrate this spring as students claimed two spots in the top 10 at the seventh annual I Am EM-Powered Energy Conservation Public Service Announcement Contest, sponsored by PSEG Long Island.
The contest invites students in grades 4 through 8 to produce 45-second video PSAs promoting energy conservation and environmental action. This year, Vernon's fifth graders, guided by Ms. Hauser, Mr. Sommo and Ms. Bifulco, rose to the challenge and delivered standout work.
At the Apr. 30 awards ceremony, Anjali Balaguer and Madeleine Petrara were recognized as two of the contest's top 10 winners across Long Island. They were joined by fellow Vernon top 30 finalists Theodoros Bakalis, Trista Feyler, Chris Fuentes, Anastasia Karpavicius, Liam Kulchinsky and Kira Scanlon, whose entries distinguished themselves among hundreds of submissions from across the region.
The project reflects the kind of student voice and community engagement that defines Vernon School, and the entire school community is proud of every student who brought creativity and purpose to this challenge.
