Roosevelt kindergartners get hands-on fire safety lesson

Kindergartners at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School enjoyed an exciting in-school field trip this week when members of the Oyster Bay Fire Department brought a fire truck to the school parking lot for a hands-on lesson in fire safety. Adding to the fun, the visit happened to fall on pajama day!
Students reviewed important fire safety basics before watching a firefighter demonstrate his protective gear and breathing apparatus. Then it was time for some hands-on fun as students took turns operating the fire hose, with a few even managing to hit the basketball hoop with their spray!
The young learners also had the opportunity to climb into the cab of the fire truck and pose for photos, getting an up-close look at the vehicle and its equipment.
To cap off the memorable visit, each student received a goodie bag and a firefighter helmet of their very own.
The district extends its thanks to the Oyster Bay Fire Department for providing students with an engaging and memorable lesson in fire safety.
