Writing Opportunities & Competitions - English, Reading & Library Media

• The Harbour Voice: All high school students are welcome to contribute to OBHS's school newspaper, The Harbour Voice, which competes each year in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. See Ms. Murphy for details.
• Agapae: All high school students can submit writing and art to Agapae, OBHS's literary-art magazine, which is published annually. Agapae competes each year in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. See Ms. Murphy and/or Mr. Boris for details.
• The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association's Annual Student Poetry Contest: All high school students may submit poetry to this annual writing contest,which has a different theme each year. See your English teacher for details.
• The Martin J. Kelly Annual Writing Contest: All high school students can compete in The Martin J. Kelly Writing Contest, which is sponsored by the Irish Cultural Society of the Garden City Area. See your English teacher for details.
• The Rider University Annual High School Writing Contest: All high school students can compete in Rider University's High School Writing Contest, which has categories for essay, short fiction, and poetry. See your English teacher for details.
• The Nassau Reading Council's Young Authors' Contest: All students can compete in the Nassau Reading Council's Young Authors' Contest. See your English teacher for details.
• Bennington College's Young Writers Awards: 10th - 12th grade students can compete in Bennington College's Young Writers Awards, which has categories for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. See your English teacher for details.
• Long Island Arts Council at Freeport's Poetry Writing Review: All high school students can submit poetry to the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport's Annual Poetry Writing Review. See your English teacher for details.
