Vernon Art Club/ Jr. Art Honor Society

Grades: 5-6
Description: TThe Vernon Art Club is an opportunity for students interested in art to work together to share their talents with the school community. This club is for students in grades five and six and meets once or twice a month throughout the school year. Some past projects have included creating artwork for the concert programs, murals for the sixth-grade dance, banners for homecoming, drawings for our senator’s “Thanksgiving Celebration,” and sculptures or drawings to explore members’ own ideas. The club provides a shared time and place for visual arts enthusiasts to inspire one another and make art together at the Vernon School. Students in 6th grade in this club will work to meet the requirements for membership into the National Junior Art Honor Society.

Vernon Musical

Grades: 3-6
Description: The Vernon Musical production allows students to be exposed to the theatrical experience. Students are able to experience the audition process, learn about character development, the basics of stage directions and how to perform with the technical sound and lights team. Students can also participate in the creation and design of the stage elements. This allows the students to paint and decorate the sets and props that will be used during the performances. 5th and 6th grade stage crew students will also learn and implement the moving of sets and scene changes.

Vernon Jazz Band

Grades: 6th Grade with select 5th graders when necessary
Description: Members of the Jazz Band learn and perform compositions in a variety of jazz styles including swing, latin, rock and funk. Improvisation is taught and highly encouraged.

Description: Welcome to the Drama Production Club, where creativity takes center stage! Our passionate and dedicated members come together to produce captivating full-length plays that transport audiences to extraordinary worlds. From auditions to final curtain call, we embark on an exhilarating journey, breathing life into compelling characters and weaving intricate narratives. With every rehearsal, we hone our acting skills, collaborate on mesmerizing set designs, and immerse ourselves in the enchanting world of theater. Join us in the Drama Production Club, where the magic of live performance unfolds, leaving hearts touched and imaginations ignited.

Middle School Jazz Band

Description: Group learns the concepts, nuances, style, and rhythm of various styles of Jazz & Popular Music. Performances take place at School Concerts, in the school community, and participates in District Jazz Night.

High School Jazz Band

Grades: 9-12
Description: Members of the Jazz Ensemble study and perform compositions in a variety of jazz forms. Students learn proper style in the performance of this music and study material leading to improvisation. In addition to concerts in school, the Jazz Ensemble takes field trips for the purpose of performance and for study. Attendance at all designated performances is required. Meeting times outside the school day are arranged cooperatively with the instructor and attendance is mandatory for credit. GRADES 9-12/ .5 CREDIT

High School Musical Production

Grades: 7-12
Description: The High School Musical produces a production including all of the elements and aspects. Depending on your passions and area of interest, there are many opportunities within a production. Students will have the opportunity to select, analyze and interpret artistic choices during the creation process. These opportunities are available in technical design, creating and developing characters, or by expressing mood, tone, and depth through music performance. These opportunities allow the participants to explore their creativity as well as learn new career paths.

Description: The OBHS chapter of the National Art Honor Society recognizes students who have made a commitment to their passion in the arts. It is a long-standing tradition run by the National Art Educators Association and offers scholarship opportunities to its students.

Stage Crew/Theater Arts

Description: Students in this club will serve as the art department for the OBHS Theatre Productions including set painting/ dressing, designing and building props & costumes, creating digital artwork for programs and posters, designing production t-shirts, managing ticket sales/box office and taking photography related to the productions (rehearsal pictures, headshots, etc.)
