Audubon New York’s annual ‘Share the Shore’ student sign initiative gives elementary students the chance to learn about and help protect our coastal birds and their habitats!
As part of this amazing program, students create drawings that promote Audubon’s ‘Share the Shore’ message, encouraging beachgoers to give nesting birds space, not litter, and follow “no pets” or leash laws.
In a friendly contest, Audubon New York staff select the winning drawings, which are then turned into weather-resistant signs and installed on the beach. We’re thrilled to announce that we had ten 4th grade winners from Vernon School!
“These young conservationists’ designs are not only informative but also vibrant works of art. Congratulations to these talented students and their dedicated art teacher, Ms. Crowley! Our students’ signs will be distributed on four beaches on the north shore of Long Island: Stehli Town Beach and Centre Island Beach in Bayville, Sunken Meadow State Park, and West Meadow Beach in Setauket. Go on a scavenger hunt this summer at the beach to find our young artists’ signs!” said Erica Giglio Pac, district director of Fine, Performing and Media Arts.
