Zach Greene Earns All-State Honors at New York Cross Country Championships

Zachary Greene, a junior on the Cross Country team etched his name among New York's cross country elite this past weekend by placing 6th at the New York State Cross Country Championships. His outstanding performance not only earned him a coveted All-State medal but also marked the culmination of a year-long journey of resilience and hard work.

Last year, Greene narrowly missed all-state honors, finishing just one place shy of the mark. That bittersweet memory fueled his determination for the 2024 season. Over the summer and fall, Greene committed to a rigorous training regimen, logging extra miles and pushing his limits to prepare for the challenges ahead. His dedication was evident throughout the season as he consistently delivered strong performances leading up to the state meet.

At the championship race, Greene demonstrated grit and focus, navigating the demanding course with precision and finishing in 6th place. His effort not only secured his place among the state’s best but also highlighted his growth as an athlete and competitor.

“This has been my goal since last year,” Greene said after the race. “Missing out by one spot was tough, but it motivated me to work harder and believe in myself. I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”

Last year Zach helped lead a team of talented runners to place 6th in the class C championships- the highest any Nassau Class C team has ever finished. This year he was more focused on his individual achievements.

Greene's accomplishment is a testament to his relentless work ethic and passion for the sport. With one more year of high school competition ahead, he’s already poised for an even brighter future.

The athletic department would also like to recognize and congratulate James Salvato, Emalyn Zeller and Liana Altamirano who qualified for the NYS Championship Tournament under Coach Cotter's leadership! Go Baymen!
